THE JOURNEY

A Journey Worth Taking

“It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out, it’s the pebble in your shoe.”
- Muhammad Ali

This quote has always spoken to me.

The challenges we face are pebbles, sand, mountains, and boulders.

In my practice, I help people navigate through all of these as they head on their path.

I’m also there to help you decide where you want to go on your journey.

When you’re on a journey, it really helps to know where you’re going!

How do we decide?

Some people are lucky enough to know exactly what they want to do with their lives.

Most of us need some time and some support to figure out where we want to end up.

I help people look closely at the entire panorama, all the things impacting their journey, positive and negative.

As part of therapy, people identify their values or heartfelt desires.

Think about it, can you remember a time when everything felt like it was going well – like skiing down a snowy pass with no fear?

Likely whatever you were doing in your life was consistent with your core values.

Together we work to identify these times and they values that drive YOU. We use these values to develop a map for your own unique life journey.

Pebbles and Sand

When we start a journey, we focus on the big stuff in our paths.

But often, at the end of the day, it seems to be the little things – the pebbles in our shoes – that slow us down.

Some of the pebbles that people bring to me are issues like parenting, work challenges, boredom with life, aging, and just being unclear about what happens next.

Mountains and Boulders

These are the BIG things in life – some things we can see looming in the distance, like the eventual death of our parents or the birth of a child.

Often, the boulders seem to show up unexpected, like chronic illness and unforeseen life changes. These mountains and boulders are scary and sometimes we’re tempted to try to ignore them.

I work with people in facing these life obstacles. We get up close to the scariness and figure out a way over or around them. You’ll know that I’m there with you, supporting you in these tough times.

The journey won’t be easy.

But without challenges, we don’t move. We don’t have a worthwhile journey.

Looking at the entire panorama of your life can bring up pain, fear, and sadness as well as love, peace, and satisfaction.

I can’t guarantee where my clients will end up once they start therapy. But I do trust that they’ll get there knowing more about their own values and where they want to go.

I’m there to help support the journey and encourage you to enjoy the route.
